CBD Oil vs. Capsules – What Is the Difference?

What Is the Difference Between CBD Capsules and CBD Oil?

CBD oil and CBD capsules are some of the most popular CBD products on the market. They are so easy to take that it’s understandable why users are making them their go-to CBD product. Before we go over the difference between CBD capsules and CBD oil, let’s clarify what CBD actually is and how it interacts with the human body.

CBD or cannabidiol is a natural compound found in hemp plants. Unlike many natural compounds, CBD interacts with the human body to promote a sense of relaxation while enhancing the function of the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system or ECS is the regulatory system that allows our cells and organs to communicate with each other to keep everything in order.

Your ECS has receptors in all the major parts of your body and plays a role in many bodily functions, but one of the most important is homeostasis- a balanced equilibrium in your body’s systems essential for overall physical and mental well-being.

    What Are CBD Capsules?

CBD capsules offer more of the same benefits as CBD oil, but the two are entirely different in terms of form. When you ingest these capsules, your liver absorbs the molecules they contain, which then creates an extended release of CBD in your body over a longer period of time than other delivery methods.

The great thing about capsules is that they deliver a constant, easy portion size of CBD. Not only are these gel capsules effective, but they are also the most familiar way to take your CBD- you just swallow it, and you’re set. To put it simply, CBD capsules are the ideal way to promote a long-lasting sense of relaxation.

    What is CBD Oil?

The most common form of CBD on the market is in oily form. So many users have turned to this option as their favorite. Here is why-  CBD oils are taken by placing a few drops under your tongue.  That’s it! Sounds pretty easy, right? Well, it is that easy. These oils come in varying strengths to help you find the serving of CBD that works best for you.

Newcomers have the option to start slow with the lowest concentrations. Next, medium-sized servings range from 250mg, 350mg, to 550mg. Lastly,  heavy-duty support includes 1000mg, 1500mg, and 3500mg bottles. Users have so many options to choose from that it’s slightly unfair to the other delivery methods.

4 Differences Between CBD Oil and Capsules

Since CBD capsules and CBD oil are ingested differently, they are subjected to different rates of absorption. Fun fact, out of all the CBD products on the market, CBD oil kicks in the fastest. Let’s look at four differences between the two.

    #1. Bioavailability

Bioavailability is your body’s ability to absorb and use a given supplement. CBD oil has a  high bioavailability. Users can experience fast-acting support when consuming CBD in oil form because the compound is absorbed relatively quickly. Since CBD in capsule form is absorbed into your system more slowly, it offers a lower bioavailability.

#2. Time for Effect to Take Place

When consumed sublingually, CBD effects can be felt after 10 minutes or so. However, consuming CBD capsules is going to take a bit longer to kick in.

Since the compound has to go through the digestive system, it might take about 45 minutes to an hour for the effects to fully kick in. The time for the effects to take place is reliant on the delivery method, so if you are looking for quick fixes, CBD oil is your best bet.

#3. Duration That the Effects Last

Since CBD oil takes effect quickly after consumption, it won’t last more than a couple of hours. On the other hand, CBD capsules, once fully absorbed by the body, can last up to 5 hours. CBD oil might be notable for kicking in the quickest, but CBD oil definitely wins in lasting the longest.

#4. The Right Dose for Beginners

For those just starting out, it’s better to start slow and low. Remember those lowest concentrations? These are for you.

If you decided to go with CBD capsules, start with a single serving per day for a few days, and add more as you become more familiar with how your body reacts to the compound.

People are different. When it comes to CBD, serving size is not based on height or weight. It’s based on needs. To get the hang of it, you have to experiment until you find what works for you.

    Discover More CBD Products

There is a world of CBD products available to you. Don’t settle for just the capsules or the oils- experiment and try different products for variations on taste and different delivery methods. You might find that CBD gummies are a much better option. Don’t settle until you find what really connects with you.

As always, it’s always a good idea to contact your local health professional if you have any questions or concerns regarding consumption.
